14 Weeks

Oops this one is a little late… but better late than never right?

Welcome to the second trimester! This week’s big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb. Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him, a process he’ll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you’re having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby’s stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches & about the size of a lemon & and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.

After 3 hours of studying about team dynamics and reflecting on the importance of giving and receiving feedback while working in groups…. I needed a break. So I read Shelly’s Blog. It has this cool thing that tells you if your child looks more like you, or your S.O.

So…. I decided to do the next best thing to that, I morphed Jess’s and my face together to see what our kid would look like.
HAHHA our kid is bald and has 5 O’clock shadow! Looks a lot like Jess, i guess I just have less dominant features. When I took Jess’s photo, he said “But I don’t want to be on the internet!” I assured him HE wouldn’t be.

Probably (hopefully!) not so accurate, but it gave me a good laugh and I’ve decided not to study anymore and go to bed!

I’ll be doing my Christmas post this weekend complete with pictures. It will be a time consuming post, so I would prefer to not be brainwashed by school and work when I start. Otherwise y’all (yep I said it) might fall asleep reading it. Does this post make any sense!?! I am SOOOO Tired.

G’Night!

Fingerprints have formed on your baby’s tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you’re having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby’s critical development will be completed and your odds of miscarriage drop considerably.

Baby’s First Present

Posted by: Michelle  /  Category: baby

(I backdated this entry as I had some problems uploading the video)

Jess and I have been getting gifts as new parents for a few weeks now, they have all been SO helpful (great reading, thanks to everyone) and beautiful (thanks Shell). But yesterday at my parents house the baby got “his” first present. My dad went to Lowes looking for something you would buy at Lowes, and ran across a Winnie the Pooh Toy.

Jess and I chose Winnie the pooh as the theme for the nursery… Well not really, I suggested it and Jess (being the best man in the whole world) said “listen lady, if you have to carry that baby inside you for 9 months, you deserve to decorate that nursery any way you want.” Which translated probably means, “you say you want my opinion now, but later at 8 months, if I say no, you will rip my head off for not letting you choose Winnie the Pooh.” Either way, Isn’t he the best??? He understands portions of pregnancy he hasn’t even been through yet!

Anyway, back to point at hand, my dad forgot what he was going to get for himself and just bought the toy (I think…maybe he bought some other stuff, I can’t remember what he said now.) Either way, it was so flattering to think that no matter where my daddy goes he is thinking of his new Grandbaby!

So here is a clip of the baby’s first toy! Thanks Dad!!

Week 12 – NO TWINS!

Posted by: Michelle  /  Category: baby

Jess and I arrived at the doctors office bright and early, kinda, at 9:00 am. After about a 30 miunte wait (funny since we were his first appointment). We were admitted to the back room where I hesitantly stepped on the scale. I closed my eyes and said “no no no no no no”. It seems I have been doing nothing but eating the last 4 weeks since it the Holiday season and all. Chocolates, cakes, pies, stuffing, cookies you name it.. I have probably eaten it. The nurse gave me a courtesy laugh (as I am sure she does all the other moms leaving the first trimester) and I looked at the scale 157. Woot! I have only gained 4 pounds!

Now, having just admitted my weight on public internet, I must remind you all I am 5′10″ tall and before I got pregnant (and injured) I weighed somewhere between 145 & 150 all the time. So I am pretty happy with myself. Now if I can just keep it up. Then the routine stuff, go pee in the cup, blood pressure, heart rate.

We sat in the exam room for only about 1 minute before the doc came in. He said we would be listening to the babies heart beat today. That sounded exciting, but I told him I was nervous(thanks mom!) that I was having twins. My aunt was only supposed to have one baby according to the first ultrasound, but one was hiding behing the other I have two great cousins instead of one. But for me… one was enough. He smiled and said the same thing happeded to his sister-in-law. So he got the ultrasound machine and with the help of a cervical probe (the tummy scanner wasn’t able to see anything!) We verified, only one. Whew!

The good news, we got a new picture!

Sorry It is a bit garbled. ( I used paint, I’ll fix it up later with photoshop) But to the left is the face/head, in the middle is a hand, and on the far right… a foot! Yay, our baby was put together right.

Last night we started making the announcement to all the friends, (at the Area 51 Christmas Party) so it is only a matter of time before EVERYONE knows… :)

We were trying to wait to tell “the masses” until we knew if it was a boy of girl (only 6 weeks to go!) but it seems the excitement has taken over. Thanks to everyone for being a part of this and being so excited for Jess and I :)

By popular demand…

For those of you that live far far away and have been askingif my tummy is getting big… here ya go! It is slowly starting to pop out and I’m still keeping my fingers crossed there is only one in there. Tomorrow is my 12 week appointment with Dr. Kastellar and I am going to push for another ultra sound just to calm my nerves (thanks mom!) Also, greedy me wants another ultrasound picture to post!

This was taken after a great Christmas party at Stephanies house where Sue, Andy and Jeff were visiting for some skiing. It was wonderful to be able to tell them in person, and I truly am luck to be surrounded by such wonderful family. Shell, Eric and The Boys were also visiting from California, so it was great to see them since the announcement as well. More to come after tommorrows Dr. visit.

I’ll be heading to my mom and dads tomorrow night as well to get some Christmas presents off in the mail, and get something while I am there too… more to come!

12 Weeks

The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. His hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden. He’s already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won’t feel your baby’s acrobatics for another month or two, nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

Although he’s barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby now has completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
